Your telegram No. 78.
I am sending documents to His Majesty's Ambassador by air mail
but Dr. Maxwell considers and I am inclined to agree that no useful
purpose would be served by re-opening the matter now. End of "R".
Confidential.
Mrs. S. Clarke, I gather, is quite unbalanced. According to
Dr. Maxwell her political colouring as a result of visit to Formosa,
Spain and Russia is bright scarlet and any official reprimand might
only serve to encourage her in further venomous activities.
Competent authorities may wish to consider possibility of
transferring her husband from Hongkong.
Addressed Foreign Office No. 295 September 5th; repeated to
Embassy, Shanghai, and Hongkong.
